Our Work in the Brazos Valley

The Brazos Valley Food Bank utilizes food, funds and friends to bring the Brazos Valley closer to being hunger-free.

Brazos Valley Food Bank approaches its anti-hunger work through two essential strategies: Solving Hunger Today and Ending Hunger Tomorrow. By addressing immediate needs through food distribution and supportive programs, BVFB ensures that families have food on the table now. Simultaneously, it works to break the cycle of hunger long-term by tackling the underlying causes of food insecurity through education, partnerships, and community-driven solutions.

Solving Hunger Today: BVFB Agency Partners

At the core of BVFB’s mission to nourish our neighbors in need is a network of 37 Agency Partners—community nonprofits and church groups dedicated to distributing free food or preparing meals for food-insecure families. Since 1985, these partners have been a lifeline, nourishing nearly two-thirds of those served through BVFB’s network and distributing over two-thirds of the food that moves through our warehouse.

Solving Hunger Today Programs

BVFB works with over 100 program partners in schools, healthcare providers, community organizations, and senior programs to reach Brazos Valley’s vulnerable populations who may otherwise fall through the cracks.

  • Senior Outreach Program - partners with senior serving organizations to get food to seniors who need it most, directly to their homes.
  • Mobile Food Pantry - monthly pop-up food distributions - trucks of food passed out to neighbors in need by volunteers in areas of high need and few resources.

Ending Hunger Tomorrow Programs

While meeting today’s hunger needs is essential, sustainable change requires additional solutions. BVFB’s programs provide interventions that empower food-insecure families with access to resources like nutrition education, community partnerships, and economic assistance, helping them to achieve stability and improved health outcomes.

  • Our Nutrition Education team empowers people to live their healthiest life by providing cooking demonstrations with community partners
  • Benefits Assistance & Refferal Partner Program -Helping people apply for programs like SNAP, and connecting people to other community resources.
  • Together We Grow - Increasing household food security by empowering our neighbors in need to inspire growth, foster connections and build upon strengths to achieve long-term financial, educational, and career-oriented goals.
